Toy Story 3

Director – Lee Unkrich

Disney Pixar return to the big screen with the latest installment of the much loved series ‘Toy Story’. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks return to voice Buzz and Woody and as always they are supported by their fellow toys, minus a few who have been taken from the group for one reason or another. The worry with sequels is that they never quite live up to the one before. But with Toy Story and any Disney Pixar film in general, very rarely do you ever come away thinking they should have just left it be, and this is true of Toy Story 3. It is simply a joy from beginning to end. You have the Journey the group go on together to grow closer but you also have the individual journeys each character has. We now meet Andy as a 17 year old getting ready to fly the nest and go to college, and as with most kids before they go off somewhere, they leave everything to the last minute! And this is where all the fun begins for the toys. The journey to their new home is one fraught with possible disasters and obstacles to overcome. We are introduced to many new toys but the ones that may stick in your mind are Lotso, The self-proclaimed ‘Leader’ of Sunnyside Daycare, and my personal favorite Mr Pricklepants, a stuffed hedgehog belonging to Bonnie one of the children who attends the daycare center. Bonnie is a wonderful little character and she turns out to be a major part of Toy Story 3. Bonnie’s character shows the innocence of a young child with an amazing imagination when she is around her toys, but it’s a different story when she is around adults. The character of Bonnie shows you that you can still have fun in today’s modern era without needing a television or a computer to find wholesome play. The long and the short of it is that if you love Disney Pixar animations you will not be let down by Toy Story 3. It is an absolute pleasure to watch, it brings out every emotion you can have during a film. Plenty of Laughs, feelings of trouble looming, and triumph when you know the toys have overcome their problems. You feel for them all as they realise that Andy is growing up and does not ‘need’ them anymore, but as always with a Disney film they find happiness in the end. Is this the last we will see of Buzz, Woody and Gang? I am not so sure but if it is I do believe that the animators at Disney Pixar have left the Toy Story Franchise at a point where we can all make up our own little journeys for the characters to be embarking on. Toy Story 3 will be back at the Regal from the 3rd September, please visit the Regal website or pop in for showing times. Claire Jeffreys
