The Regal Stowmarket is 50

We’re really proud to be celebrating the Regal’s 75th Birthday. In February 2011 we had over 5,500 admissions, so that means that almost a third of the people who live in Stowmarket used the Regal that month, it’s fantastic that after 75 years of entertaining the town, that the Theatre is still relevant to the lives of so many of it’s residents.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the venue in recent years; in 2004 the attendances had fallen to an all-time low, but thankfully the Town’s Councillors made some tough decisions that went along way to secure the Regal’s future. And in 2009 we suffered the fire, this was all the more devastating for me and my team because we had enjoyed a record breaking 2008, with the highest admissions for over a decade. But with the support of my Staff, the Town Council Managers and Councillors, and most of all, the people of Stowmarket, we enjoyed an amazing record smashing 2010. I’m sure that in another 75 years, the people of Stowmarket will be celebrating the Regal’s 150th Birthday; I’m only disappointed that I probably won’t be around for that party!
