Stowmarket WI

Jane Sago was the speaker at our September meeting.  Jane is an excellent cook and chatted along to her hour long demonstration of microwave cookery.  Easy noodles, speedy salmon and leek one-pot, and microwave merangues were just three of the dishes she produced, each taking only minutes to cook.  Jane came well prepared and organised.  She had assembled the ingredients and utensils needed to cook five dishes in all, and transported everything in her car, microwave oven included.   Members were invited to taste the results and copies of the recipe sheets were soon snapped up.

We also had a very short outline of the aims and objectives of Gipping Valley LETS, an organisation which, instead of money, uses its members’ ‘talents’ to perform useful jobs for one another, such as gardening, hairdressing, typing manuscripts or perhaps some painting and decorating.

The President, Sue Rowson, congratulated members on completing, by combined effort, the WI ‘Tri’ challenge of five miles of swimming, twenty miles of cycling and fifty miles of walking over the summer months. Just about every member joined in this opportunity to keep fit together and have fun at the same time.  The Craft Group will soon be turning its attention to making decorations for a WI tree to join the scores of others that will fill the parish church in the town’s Christmas Tree Festival.  The Book Group have enjoyed several good reads so far this year, and look forward to the next meeting and a new novel to discuss.

Our next monthly meeting for all the members is on Thursday 14th October, 7.30pm at St Peter’s Church Hall, Stowmarket.  Mr Geoffrey Evans’ subject for his talk is “Around Alaska”.  Visitors and new members are very welcome.  Please ring 01449 612093 for further information.
