In response to the issue of parking in the Market place, I feel strongly that Stowmarket is hostile to shoppers and bankers who don’t want to spend £1 parking their car for a five minute trip into a Bank or shop. Why do many small towns seem to be able to allow short term parking in their main streets and Stowmarket cannot. Pedestrians would soon get used to it and would take extra care if they had to. I would dare to suggest that the town centre might be more used if free ‘up to 15 minutes’ parking was easily available. E. Hart

I wholeheartedly agree with this response.
I live in Needham Market – which provides up to one hour of free parking both on the High Street and in a number of car parks in the town.
I *never* do *any* shopping in Stowmarket as a result of the parking charges – whenever I need anything that I cannot get in Needham, I travel to Tesco instead. The parking is free!
What really annoys me is having to pay £1 to say, pay a cheque into a bank in Stowmarket.
Other towns in the area, e.g. Halesworth, provide a limited number of free parking spaces for 15mins use – why, oh why, can Stowmarket not do the same!
