I’m sure you have heard of Mt Kilimanjaro by now, if not it’s the tallest mountain in Africa and the worlds highest free-standing mountain and I’m part of a team trying to reach the summit. It’s going to be a long and hard 5 days to reach the 5895m (19340ft) summit with the thin air and freezing temperatures bearing down on us while we climb! I’ll be climbing this beast of a mountain for the Town 102 Kids Trust which helps children and families in the local area who are in need of care and attention. The charity provides donations to drive education, health, welfare, ability and opportunity. It’s new but it’s been busy already. It has supplied a local primary school with high visibility jackets for their day trips out and for the ‘walking bus’ which was set up by the community.
It’s these little things that the Town Kids Trust helps out with, things that bring the community together and that’s why I decided to help where I could. Helping with the running costs of a community play bus for the under 5′s or taking children to the pantomime are prime examples of the great work the Town Kids Trust is doing in our local area. Not only will all the money raised help local children and families but the team will be helping out where we can in Tanzania. There are many schools for disadvantaged children, including orphans, situated at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.
We will work alongside the pupils and teachers to repaint classrooms and undertake essential repairs, such as mending fences and fixing broken walks to ensure the environment is safe and pleasant. There will also be the opportunity to spend time with the local children too. To donate or for further information visit www.justgiving.com/hawkexpress.
