Mike Norris & Wendy Marchent Reporting Back 2nd

SAXON PARK, BARRETTS LANE, NEEDHAM MARKET

After Saxon Park Residents Association contacted Wendy about concerns they had about the new management, Wyldecrest ; Wendy & Mike arranged a meeting with the Residents Association at Saxon Park last Thursday 24th February, 2011, to listen to what they had to say, as a result of which we are going to meet together with one of Mid Suffolk Corporate Directors this coming Friday 4th March, 2011, about the problems raised. Wyldecrest also own Blue Leighs Park Home site Great Blakenham, which has been featured on ‘Inside Out’ T.V. programme about problems there.

NEEDHAM MARKET LIBRARY.

Thank you to the Town Council, and the Town Clerk, for the meetings it has been having about Suffolk County Council’s divestment policy, and particularly the things which affect Needham Market – Library, Youth Club and so on. In connection with the two meetings which have been held in Mid Suffolk Offices, attended by Mike & Wendy, with Senior Mid Suffolk Officers and Town Council representatives, the second meeting also having the Head of Suffolk County Libraries and SCC Libraries area manager North in attendance, to try to draw up plans to rescue Needham Market Library, the date of the next meeting has been deferred for Mid Suffolk Officers to obtain more information from Suffolk County Council.

THE LIMES HOTEL, HIGH STREET, NEEDHAM MARKET

Well done to resident and Town Councillor Philip Wright for all that he is doing to support The Limes, and also resident and Town Councillor Linda Terry. As you know The Limes Hotel was one of 26 hotels and pubs formerly owned by the Elizabeth Hotels group which went into administration December 2009. KPMG the joint administrators have said after the successful sale of the other hotels and pubs they are disappointed to announce the closure of The Limes, and consequent redundancy of 25 members of staff. It is believed that the site will now be put up for auction. Residents have asked
“Could The Limes be turned into flats”.

Wendy has asked Mid Suffolk’s Conservation Officer about this, and he thought it was unlikely. The Government’s planning policy is for the vitality and viability of town centres, and recently Mid Suffolk Planning Officers have encouraged businesses in Needham Market High Street. A similar question has been asked about the Old Town Hall, most of whose occupants are moving into what used to be Feed Safe or Quintons in the Station Yard (apart from the Chernoble Charity Shop which has moved into what used to be Viking Stained Glass in Coddenham Road); and a similar answer would be given.

NOISEY H.G.V.s

Lorries going through Needham Market during the night from 28/2//11 to 4/3/11 Mid Suffolk Officers and Mid Suffolk Councillors were notified by Suffolk County Council’s Head of Legal Services:
“From today’s date (i.e. 28.2.11) until 4th March, 2011 the temporary suspension of weight restriction order, of the B1113 Claydon/Barham/Great Blakenham/Badley and Needham Market, between 8 p.m and 6 a.m. This will facilitate the traffic management arrangements during Highways Agency resurfacing works on the A14 (T) between Claydon and Cedars interchanges.” (Not exactly a consultation.) However the Town Council, and some residents were informed earlier. After residents who were notified and will be affected contacted Wendy she emailed the Highways Agency and David Ruffley M.P.to ask if there could be a contraflow on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 as a planned diversion instead of the diversion of the westbound traffic through Needham Market during the night (which must be keeping a lot of residents awake) and he has replied to say he is looking into this.
Enquiries can be made to Nathan Smart, Atkins Highways & Transportation for the Highways Agency Tel. 01473.244834.

Mid Suffolk were informed rather late to do very much about it.
