On 24th May this year the Inner Wheel Club of Stowmarket celebrates 40 years since its inaugural meeting when twelve founder members met. As the club grew so the place for meeting monthly on Tuesdays changed. Various locations in the Community have been used but for the last 10 years evening meetings and meals have been shared at The Cedars. Inner Wheel was founded in support of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland during the 1920’s and became international in 1967 open to all female relatives of Rotarians. It gives opportunities of friendship and increased understandingthroughout the 98 countries where Clubs currently operate. Whilst much money is raised annually in support of local and international charities nominated by the Club President and Overseas Coordinator the development of links through friendship remain the prime aim. This involves Conferences visits to other clubs and increasingly internet contact. This year our activities are focusing on Macmillan Cancer Support, of which a number of members have personal experience, and T.A.M.S., a charity aimed at recycling our old machines and technology for use in the Third World, who take anything from knitting needles to computers.
