Movember 2011 – Stowmarket Fire Fighters

Here’s some background, regarding the fire fighters in Stowmarket’s and their participation in the month of “MOVEMBER” formerly known as the November!! Each year intrepid men known as “mo bros” grow moustaches during the month of November. Their aim is to promote awareness of health issues, particularly prostate, testicular and other cancers specific to men. In the process, raising funds to support the charities, who quite literally want to “change the face of men’s health”.

You can logon during the month, as we post our tashtastic updates!. There are also collection boxes located at supermarkets, petrol stations, and our employers around the town.

The fire fighters see this as a fun and unusual way to support these charities. As it is proven that men are less likely to seek medical advice, or visit their doctor than women..

Organiser, firefighter Andy Gunn says “with a man dying from prostate cancer every hour in the UK, its time for men to use movember, to think about their health”

Mid Suffolk District Council

Young people to learn life-saving skills

Over ten days (between 20th – 30th June) around 900 young people from Mid Suffolk will be taught safety techniques that could save their lives. Through eight scenarios, which cover a range of potentially life-threatening situations, they will gather information and skills that could help their whole family at the annual Mid Suffolk Crucial Crew event.

Crucial Crew, which is a national scheme, is aimed at year six pupils (10/11 year olds) and is organised by Mid Suffolk District Council. The half-day sessions will teach young people a range of skills such as accident prevention, road safety and fire safety. They will also learn about anti-social behavior and the dangers of drugs.

Organisations taking part include Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk Constabulary, Rotary Club, UK Power Network, St John Ambulance and Suffolk County Council.

At the end of each half-day session each child will be given a safety pack full of useful literature together with various accessories to remind them of their day and to reinforce all they have learnt at Crucial Crew 2011.

Jenson Button Wins in Canada

After an amazing race Jenson wins from 21st position at half way. Jenson buttom after going into the pits 6 times and serving a drive through penality, takes 1st position and 2nd place in the drivers championship. Sebastian Vettel looses control of his car on the last lap under the pressure from Jenson, the brit pushes the rest of the field out of the way and not even the current champion can stop him. Vettle comes in 2nd with Webber 3rd Massa takes 6th place with a photo finish thanks to the help of DRS. A day to be proud to be British

Weather delays Skate park construction

The sub-zero temperatures and unusually early snowfall delayed the start of construction work on the new skatepark. At the time of writing, we hope that work will start during the week starting Monday 13th December. Construction is expected to take around 10 weeks so, allowing for bad weather and Christmas, it is perhaps realistic to expect work to be finished in March 2011.

…… But Play Area work starts Regardless

Design and Development East Anglia, the Stowupland based firm who are creating the new play area at the Recreation Ground, were able to work through the snow and ice to make excellent progress on the new facility. Work should be finished on this phase of the project by the end of January.

Other elements of the overall project include the installation of a ballpark, teenage shelter and CCTV camera, all of which should be completed by the end of February at the latest.

Stowmarket Town vs Histon Reserves
