If you are interested in good music, a host of exciting artists are awaiting to thrill and entertain you in the 25th Anniversary Season of concerts at Stowmarket’s Regal Theatre.
Stowmarket Concerts believes in encouraging enthusiastic young musicians and in the months ahead we will welcome a talented young singer, a distinguished cellist, an award-winning percussionist and a string quartet of outstanding quality.
Our first concert, on Sunday, 30th October at 2.30pm, features a promising your pianist, Erdem Misirlioglu who was amongst the winners at the recent international Rachmaninov Competition for Young Pianists. He will be playing works by Beethoven and Liszt.
No recordings can replace the excitement and immediacy of a live performance beautifully enhanced by the absolute clarity of the Regal acoustic.
Why not pick up a brochure from Stowmarket library, Mid Suffolk Tourist Office or the Regal. This gives details of all our concerts of great music until March, 2012. Buying a ticket enables you to see these stars of the future before the world had made up its mind about them. Tickets cost just £8 at the door whilst £35 buys a better bargain of five transferable season tickets usable at any concert.
Season tickets are available from Rick Durrant, 14 Fairfield Hill, Stowmarket IP14 1NG (Tel: 01449 672608). Even better, if you are under 18, the door is open – you get in FREE!
So make a note – 2.30 in the afternoon of Sunday, 30th Of October at Stowmarket’s Regal Theatre – a feast of fine music!

Rise of the planet of the apes star James Franco as Will Rodman, Freda Pinto as Caroline Aranha and Andy Serkis as Caeser. We also see Tom Felton in his first major role after Draco and he holds his own. Although the American accent was a little questionable he shows that he is able to move on from the Harry Potter franchise. Even though his role is one of the ‘Bad Boys’ you can see a clear difference between the two.
I went into this film with some in trepidation as I am not the biggest Planet of the Apes fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good science fiction film, some of the Visual Effect were a bit ropey for me like when using the wide shots but close up were excellent, and the shots of Caesar as a baby chimp are heart melting, so cute!
Will works for Gen-Sys a company working on developing a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, using Chimpanzees as test subjects. Bright Eyes a female Chimpanzee goes on the rampage after giving birth to a baby secretly whom she fears is under threat. The Head on Gen-Sys orders a mass execution of all the Chimps but the chimp handler just can’t bring himself to kill Caesar. Will takes him home to be kept safe but notices that Caesar has inherited his mother’s high intelligence.
Special mention I feel must go to John Lithgow who plays Will’s Father Charles Rodman. Charles suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and Lithgow’s Portrayal of this disease nearly brought me to tears on a couple of occasion especially when he told Will to Stop. Lithgow plays this role with such compassion and shows that even though suffers ‘loose themselves’ on the outside; they are still there on the inside.

Details of Stowmarket’s celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 have been released.
The free admission, day long event, called ‘Jubilee 2012’ is planned for Monday 4th June 2012, (it will be a national bank holiday) and will run from 1pm to 10.30pm on the town’s Recreation Ground featuring a wide range of attractions for all ages.
Professional and local musicians and dancers of all styles will be appearing.
Music is central to the event, and the organisers are arranging for each act to play at least four number one hits from the Queen’s sixty year reign. This will result in an event that truly has ‘something for everyone’ as the fast moving, continuous show will be covering six decades of the country’s best music, so this will be the town’s ‘Number One Event’.
‘Jubilee 2012’ is being arranged by the same team that brought the town its highly acclaimed Golden Jubilee celebrations a decade ago.
Organiser, Cliff Dix, says that ‘Jubilee 2012’ is now looking for local bands and live performance groups who would like to take this opportunity to appear before the huge expected crowd.
Application forms to take part are available at Phosphene (The Event Shop) on Milton Road South, or from the website www.jubilee2012.org
Many local organisations have already ‘signed up’ and early booking is recommended to ensure your group gets the best choice of performance time.

Enjoy Life is an unregistered small charity; it has been created to raise money for people with disabilities to provide more opportunities to access swimming and horse riding. Swimming and horse riding have many benefits for people with disabilities, these include; fitness, health, building muscular strength, flexibility/range of movement and sensory/therapeutic effects.
Enjoy Life hopes to work with Optua who provide Big Splash Swimming sessions across the UK and Riding for the Disabled who offer horse riding sessions across the UK. We are currently planning to raise funds to support these organisations firstly in the Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds areas and branch out over time as the charity grows.
Enjoy Life hopes to provide different types of support to these two organisations; financial or in the form of a personal assistant whichever will be most beneficial. A personal assistant may be paid to support the individual who is attending the activity.
Community & Corporate Support
In order to reach our goals we need the help and support of local people and businesses. There are many things, both big and small, that will make a huge difference, from raising/donating money to having leaflets in your place of work or mentioning us on your website to raise awareness of the charity and its work.
Anyone who would like to donate their time, money or skills or would like to know more please contact us at enjoy-life@live.co.uk, follow our blog at inspirationsandme.blogspot.com or follow us on Twitter @inspirations14

Misuse of Dog Waste Bins in Stowmarket – Can you help us?
For several months now we have received regular reports from members of the public with regard to overflowing bins in Gipping Way (Close to the Union St & Bury St Car park entrance) and Spring Row, Stowmarket. The Street Cleansing team are asked to attend each time and find that the bin is full of carrier bags of cat litter or dog waste. I have often been told that the bin had already been emptied earlier on the same day when asking a member of the team to empty a problem bin.
Not only is it an offence to use a street litter or dog waste bin for waste from home it also has a knock on effect to our normal schedules as operatives are called away from their normal duties to complete an additional empty of the problem bin.
People with pets can put bagged faeces or bagged used cat litter into their own black bin or can take it to the household waste site.
If you know of someone who is misusing a street litter or dog waste bin please let us know. Your call will be treated in confidence and the offender dealt with in an informal way in the first instance – it could be that they do not realise it is an offence to put waste from home in a street bin.
Ultimately offenders can be fined or prosecuted.
To report an issue with a bin or any other street cleansing problem call our Contact Centre on 08456 066067.

The Steam and Crafts weekend is an annual event held at the Museum of East Anglian Life every August.
For the 2011 on the 13th and 14th of August event the museum had a number of Steam Traction Engines, including two Steam Rollers, being driven around the 80 acre site by students on a weekend training course that were learning how to drive and look after the engines.
As well as Steam Engines there were a number of crafts stalls demonstrating and selling jewellery, walking sticks, rope making, patchwork, knitting, basket making and much more.
There were ploughing displays by the David Brown and Ferguson Tractor Clubs as well as an impressive array of vintage equipment from the Vintage Horticultural and Garden Machinery Club.
The weekend was a huge success even if the weather proved a little unpredictable! For more information about having a stall or booking a place on the Steam Driver Training Course for the event in 2012

Everything you need in one place
If you thought rural Suffolk was short of arts group and activities think again.
A new Suffolk Rural Arts Directory offering 120 pages of arts and heritage contacts to help residents and visitors looking for arts resources and information has just been published by Mid Suffolk and Suffolk Coastal councils working together to promote local tourism.
The directory lists crafts, dance, drama and musical theatre, film, galleries and art studios, museums and heritage, professional arts agencies and services, professional artists and makers, spoken and written word, technical services and equipment for hire, venues and visual arts groups – within Mid Suffolk, Suffolk Coastal and some in Babergh.
“Cultural tourism is a vital part of the local economy” explains councillor Diana Kearsley, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community “we have a wealth of arts groups presenting fantastic work across Suffolk, and a directory like this one is crucial in letting people know what’s going on and can choose to get engaged if they want to.”
The directories are free and available at libraries, arts venues, tourist information centres and local businesses and via the new website at www.ruralartssufflolk.org.uk. There’s loads of other good stuff on there too such as what’s on guide, event and project profiles and artist opportunities.
If you are not already in the directory and are organising arts activity across rural Suffolk, you can register as an artist, organisation, venue or service by going online and completing a simple form.
For further information please contact Zoey Furzer on 01449 724638 or email

The Phoenix Counselling Practice is the counselling provider for a registered Charity called the Raedan Trust (Suffolk)
Since 2004 the Phoenix Counselling Practice, has worked hard to establish itself as a community resource, providing the most suitable type of professional counselling, to anyone who needs it at a price they are able to afford.
Based at Raedan House in Childer Road, Stowmarket our premises include a large garden, which, whilst great for wildlife, seemed rather under used so this year we have worked with Stowmarket Town Council on an initiative to provide three allotments to town residents. We now have three plots in the garden being used, and the allotment holders are beginning to enjoy the first year’s crop of tomatoes, potatoes, runner beans and wild flowers.
At Raedan House our customised consulting rooms are spacious, relaxing and comfortable and our aim is to provide clients with the highest standards of counselling available across all our services, which are as follows;
Professional and Confidential Counselling – for individuals and couples.
Young People’s Counselling – for young people aged 5 – 13 years.
Employee Counselling Scheme – up to 6 sessions are paid for by the employer.
IAPT Service – a service for referrals from health professionals and GPs.
Raedan Trust Bursary – dependant on funds being available the Bursary may offer financial support for up to 10 sessions.
Low Cost Counselling – for those on lower income we operate a sliding scale and, when appropriate, counselling may be provided by less experienced counsellors.
We have 12 fully qualified counsellors who work in a variety of ways including integrative, person centred, Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. Counsellors also use techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and Solution Focussed therapy as needed.
Reasons why people seek counselling are varied and at times we all may feel overwhelmed or unsatisfied with our lives. Sometimes it is possible to identify the cause of our feelings but not know what to do or how to cope. Sometimes we do not understand why we feel the way we do. Talking can clarify the problem and identify changes we would like to make so that we can feel more in charge of our lives.
Counselling may be beneficial for dealing with a range of situations, and needs such as: Depression, Anxiety, Bereavement, Addiction, Relationship difficulties, Abuse, Trauma, Obsessive and compulsive behaviour, Eating disorders, Loss of identity and purpose and maintaining good mental health.
If you have any questions regarding counselling we would be pleased to hear from you.
